Married?Edit
The page for Fanari Strong-Voice claims that she and Tharstan are married, but neither of them seems to mention this in dialogue. Is this true? 98.204.42.6 16:40, 13 May 2013 (GMT)

- I believe this is based on the husband/wife relationship in the game data, as seen in cslist: http://cs.uesp.net/index.php?game=sr&formid=0xDB018fc8. There also seems to be some conversations between both of them in the Greathall that suggests they are probably not actually married, rather Tharstan just has a soft spot for Fanari:

- My mistake, it isn't on her page, it's on the page for the quest Lost Legacy: "Using what he learned of Skaal culture, Tharstan wrote Children of the All-Maker, and the next book is nearly finished. He also married the Skaal leader Fanari Strong-Voice and now lives in the largest building in town, the Greathall. " But I can't find any evidence for this in the game, nor elsewhere on this wiki. 98.204.42.6 21:34, 13 May 2013 (GMT)

- Okay, thanks, that makes sense. It's not unheard of for a Skaal to marry an outsider, but since he's only been there a year it would have been rather a whirlwind courtship, and also no one ever talks about it, which makes the situation rather weird. But it would also be weird for an outsider to sleep in bed with the chief without being married to her... I'm not sure why they couldn't have just thrown another bed in there for him. As far as I can tell the book he wrote is pure propaganda. He outright admits to manipulating the contents to suit his whims ("I don't think this will go in my book" after an important character is killed by a certain Daedra) and he tells easily refutable lies, sometimes to your face. For example, he states the Skaal don't kill for sport, yet there are literally dozens of mounted trophy heads around the village - there's one in the main hall staring down at him while he writes his sentimental rubbish! I don't know for sure the reason he tells these lies. One explanation might be that he has simply gone native and is putting out a positive image of the Skaal at the request of Fanari (whom he seems enamoured to). Another might be for political purposes: he could be present on Solstheim for purposes of manufacturing a reason for Skyrim to reconquer the island from the Dunmer due to "ancient ancestral links", or even be there to justify a rejection of the Eight/Nine Divines after "rediscovering the true faith". His patron isn't readily apparent, but it could be one of the two primary claimants to the High Kingdom of Skyrim, or one of the other Hold lords looking to expand their demesne.
