i don't know whats wrongEdit

i recently downloaded Daggerfall on my mac and it was working great, until my character started to move diagonally to the left. I don't know what happened, and i dont know how to fix it. if someone knows how to fix this i would appreciate it. — Unsigned comment by Kills-For-Joy (talkcontribs) at 22:48 on February 10, 2011

I don't know if the control system for the mac works with this fix, but on the PC version if you get stuck with the diagonal move glitch you can reset your view with the home key and that will also reset the move glitch. from that point on forward=forward. 71.60.156.168 20:45, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm stuck with classes!Edit

When ever I make a class, I end up starting the game again, but all the pre-made classes just don't work for me! Daggerfall is really good but I'm just stuck with the classes. Can anyone suggest what I should do? Should I take the quiz? Should I spend hours planning a custom class? Can someone please give me some tips. — Unsigned comment by NightbladeX1 (talkcontribs) at 12:37 on May 15, 2011

The quiz, although interesting, only sorts out into Magic, Stealth, and Combat, and then says which class fits the ratio. If you are new to playing, I would suggest taking a pre-made class and sticking to it. It can be helpful to create a class though. You can give him/her unique advantages, although you will have to put disadvantages in there too to balance out the level requirements. Also, simple disadvantages can help you level much easier. Just look though this page, especially the last couple sections. --DKong27 Talk Cont 15:42, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Main page needs clean upEdit

I know "no one plays it anymore" but we need to clean this up for one thing the holidays can be put in to calendar IMO I think it should also look more like TES 3 and 4 pages

Would a Edit like this be allowed? ( i know any one can dose not mean we should) Wolfy 02:13, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

I can see the "holidays" link being a sub-bullet of "calendar", but how could this page look more like the TES 3 & 4 pages? They use the exact same format... --GKtalk2me 23:26, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

New Character Crashes GameEdit

I downloaded Daggerfall yesterday and it worked fine but i died with getting a chance to save and had to leave so i did. Now, after finding out how to re-run the game, i cant make a new character, when i get into the menu to make a character it tells me to pick a starting province and no matter which 1 i click it crashes. Does anyone know what i can do to fix this? — Unsigned comment by 69.142.253.66 (talk) at 13:47 on 8 July 2011‎

Auto Looking Down?Edit

When I left mouse click anywhere, on anything, at any time, it looks down, I dont know why it does this and it bothers me severely. I tried everything i could think of and I just cant figure it out. Can Someone please help? By the way i reloaded a save from a while before and that didnt help. — Unsigned comment by 69.142.253.66 (talk) at 19:31 on 8 July 2011‎

You can press the HOME button to get the view back to normal. Don't know how else to help you, wait for another person. For now, try that. — Unsigned comment by 177.16.218.150 (talk) at 02:17 on 9 July 2011‎

Can't finish a questEdit

I got a quest from the Mages Guild to retrieve Snake venom from a dungeon. I got it, went back to the guild, but I can't finish the quest. I talk to the guy and he doesn't realize I have what he asked me for, it just starts a normal conversation. Already tried the save fix, but it didn't work. — Unsigned comment by 177.16.218.150 (talk) at 02:18 on 9 July 2011‎

Have you read over Daggerfall:The_Acceptance_Test? Elliot (talk) 02:51, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
So... you're saying I should get the poison from that quest and try to deliver it on the Mages Guild? — Unsigned comment by 189.26.162.56 (talk) at 07:49 on July 9, 2011

Can't talk to some peopleEdit

I've reached this annoying glitch where I couldn't talk to most people, it'd just appear "You see [name of the person]". Then I used fix save and now I can talk to most of them, but with some key ones nothing happens when I try talking, so I can't proceed the main quest. What should I do? — Unsigned comment by 187.112.241.247 (talk) at 21:04 on July 9, 2011

You're on the wrong interaction mode. You're viewing the people instead of talking to them. If you have the hotbar active, click the box with the eye until you get a speech bubble icon. --Legoless 11:47, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
I'm the guy from a question above, regarding the same thing. I can talk to everyone, except main-quest related ones. For example, I'm stuck on the Lich's Soul quest. I click on the King of Worms but nothing happens (I could talk to him to get the quest, but now I can't to deliver it, and yes, I do have the soul), just like with the Elysana's Robe quest in which I can't talk to the princess to get the quest. Please, what should I do? I already tried fixsave and reinstalling the game, I don't know what else to do. — Unsigned comment by 177.16.218.2 (talk) at 00:00 on 11 July 2011

Removing Redlinks?Edit

I just noticed DKong removed a whole load of redlinks from different DF pages and it made me consider: is that a good idea? I know for a fact that our biggest DF-contributor, PLRDLF, uses redlinks to keep track of what needs to be done – and probably has the Wanted Pages bookmarked for the same reason. I know redlinks are a “no-go”, but with this hellish game (and incredibly incomplete namespace), we should probably keep them, not only for PLRDLF sake, but for future editors as well. Thoughts? --Krusty 06:02, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Yeah I'm not sure that was the right thing to do. I've been tempted to do it several times myself but didn't. Red links aren't inherently bad - I just dislike them being created needlessly. Those Daggerfall ones were (almost) all about factions, and arbitrarily removing them means there's no list of pages that need creating. rpeh •TCE 06:50, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
I was tempted to revert those last night when I first saw them, and I still am. I've stated multiple times that the redlinks serve an actual purpose in the DF namespace. DKong should have asked before doing something like this. Elliot (talk) 16:01, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
Since everyone seems to be against it, I must say that I am sorry about that. But I still assert that my apologies are for not asking, rather than the actual actions. I kinda figured that Daggerfall has been out for a long time, and that if nothing has been done yet, it would stay that way. But I must say that if those pages were created, it would not be that difficult to add links to them. Many of the links included in the wanted pages were simply Transclusions of reputation tables. Those that were not should have been, but were likely done before that was a largely done practice. If the large revamp were done that probably should be done in this namespace, I believe that my edits would still be for the best. --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 16:09, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
You've got nothing to apologise for - it's good to be bold, although if you're not familiar with the game, a little less boldness is often a good idea. For the factions, I'm going to suggest that we undo the removals and create redirects to an "Other Factions" page (or whatever). Redirects are easy to change into full articles at a later date, and we'll at least have a page that makes it clear what's what. rpeh •TCE 16:30, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
Definitely nothing to be sorry about! For the longest time, I thought it was incredibly weird with all the red links; until I saw PLRDLF revert a single redlink removal with the reason stated above. It looks like crap, but it is the only way to keep track of the overly confusing DF namespace and what needs to be done. Rpeh's suggestion is a good one, though - I'm for it. --Krusty 19:13, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I think it is safe to assume we should revert the recent edits and reinstate the redlinks - the sorting can be done later on, if needed. If nobody beats me to it, I'll revert the lot tomorrow. --Krusty 01:15, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

() I agree that the redlinks should be kept. The only good reason to remove a redlink is that we don't want the page to be created, not that no one has so far. I've reverted all of 'em (I think). --GKtalk2me 03:56, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

ImagesEdit

Well, i've never read any daggerfall article, but i saw a recent image upload and it had health bars and compass on it. I just looked at a few others and some images have them and a few don't. I was wondering if it would be possible to remove them in an image editor? Or if it is possible to take them with out the bars and compass there? --Kiz ·•· Talk ·•· Contribs ·•· Mail ·•· 17:06, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Unable to complete questEdit

I am having trouble with a acolyte quest that involves finding a noble, ashford, at the masterton residence. The problem is he is nowhere in the residence, only a woman is standing in a room, what do I do? — Unsigned comment by 119.160.59.131 (talk) at 17:21 on 23 January 2012‎

Wagon glitchEdit

Something is very wrong indeed with my wagon. I had loaded 3 books in it, and after a while, they all disappeared. To check, I put a shortbow into the wagon, and it disappeared as well. Playing latest patch with all anti-bug mods. 70.49.70.56 03:43, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Can't draw my weapon?Edit

Hi, I downloaded Ancestral Ghost's Daggerfall setup v2.3 and installed it successfully. However, once I made my character and playing with the controls, I can't seem to draw and use my weapons after equipping them (though the game still makes the swooshing sound when I press the button). The weapon's graphic doesn't appear in my view, and nothing I do helps. What should I do? 24.48.192.27 00:36, 9 June 2012 (UTC) A

I'm having this problem also. I was able to draw my weapon and change hands perfectly but then once i loaded a save it would not work.I really hope some fixes this Skylar1146 (talk) 19:31, 2 December 2012 (GMT)
This happens sometimes when you draw/switch weapons while dying, or you did one of these two things shortly before you died. The only fix is, quit the game and reload your savegame, then everything will work as always again.--PLRDLF (talk) 20:46, 2 December 2012 (GMT)

Can't seem to be able to finish questEdit

I got a quest from the Mages Guild where I needed to find a scroll from a dungeon and then deliver it. However, when I try to click the "Get Quest" button to deliver it, it just takes me to the dialogue scree. What's wrong? 94.132.78.61 03:56, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

It's been a while since I've played Daggerfall, but I would recommend going through the list of Mages Guild Quests for either instructions on how to complete the quest or for possible known bugs relating to your quest. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 04:13, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

weird glitch please helpEdit

ok i play daggerfall on my laptop and i cant look down or attackThe Tamriel Terror (talk) 04:11, 16 January 2013 (GMT)

This is a long shot, but if you are playing on PC, if you alt-tab out, open task manager, and end the windows explorer process, that has fixed issues like this before for me. If it doesn't work, just log off of your account, and log back in. That should restart windows explorer. Jeancey (talk) 04:38, 16 January 2013 (GMT)

Cannot UpdateEdit

Howdy, Im trying update daggerfall, I downloaded the patch 2.13, but when I go to execute the dag213.exe (the patch) my pc says "The version of this file is not compatable with the version of windows your running ... ect" Any Help ? — Unsigned comment by Mog (talkcontribs) at 02:15 on January 17, 2013‎

You need to run the game and all associated programs, including patches, in DOSBOX (or any other preferred emulator) in accordance with the installation instructions for later versions of Windows. 76.5.187.18 08:14, 20 March 2013 (GMT)

Should it be mentionedEdit

That Daggerfall still holds the record for largest game map ever? From what I can find, it's some 60000 square miles in size, 750 times the size of the game world of WoW. It's notable, but I don't know if it's quite what should go on this page, so I'm going to ask here rather than actually edit the page. Xolroc (talk) 23:15, 15 September 2013 (GMT)

Not really noteworthy as far as I'm concerned. Not really anywhere to put it, and considering that the vast majority of that space is just empty wastelands between towns, it's hard to consider it relevant. ThuumofReason (talk) 00:28, 16 September 2013 (GMT)

Dark Brotherhood GlitchEdit

If you are currently in a city without alchemist (santaki), the game will freeze out of nowhere. Is because there is no alchemist in the area, thus the quest to join the guild can't be triggered properly — Unsigned comment by 187.164.25.127 (talk) on 01:15 UTC, 1 January 2015‎

Year settingEdit

So, according to multiple sources, Daggerfall starts in 405, yet the Warp of the West, which happens at the end of the game, occurs in 417. Would that mean Daggerfall takes place over the course of twelve years? And if so, should we make this apparent in the chart to the right similar to how we have it with Arena? Cheers. --Rezalon (talk) 02:59, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

No longer available on GOG.comEdit

So far as I can tell, GOG.com no longer carries Daggerfall (the Elder Scrolls games they're offering me are Redguard, Battlespire, and Morrowind). I'd just like someone else to confirm this before I delete that bit. 173.69.52.117 21:21, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

You need to buy one of the games for sale for Daggerfall and Arena to show up, it's available. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 22:59, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

Daggerfall Unity?Edit

It seems that maybe the Daggerfall pages are not so active these days, and infrequently active in their most trafficked days, but I would like to see ANY mention of Daggerfall Unity... Though this may be daunting, I'm sure.— Unsigned comment by Bruhcondominium (talkcontribs) at 07:04 on 27 March 2020 UTC

Daggerfall Unity pages can be found here. Echo (talk) 07:17, 27 March 2020 (GMT)

Jewelry as an item categoryEdit

Suggesting a Jewelry page under items. The jewelry-like items, rings, bracers, torcs, etc, are very different from both armor and clothing, and even have their own section of the inventory screen. I'll tackle it if people agree. I'm just a bit new to wiki contributing and wanted to see if others were on board before making a big front page change. Incorrect Release DateEdit

A YouTuber has released an interesting video disputing the release date of Daggerfall as noted on the wiki: https://youtu.be/wHIYQRaZ1OY. Since 2006, we have noted the date as "31 Aug 1996", but this appears to be wrong. It looks like Sept 20, 1996 is the true release date. I've added a fact tag for now and starting this discussion here to propose we fix this. --Jimeee (talk) 18:46, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

Such extensive research should have the Youtuber named: Double Negative. His investigation has made it pretty evident that September is the correct date, specifically Sept 20th, 1996. He also got a possible citation for how we got our erroneous date. Either way, let's fix this now -Zebendal (talk) 18:03, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
I see this has been updated now. To save anyone else the 37 minutes, the above video is extensively researched and has pretty conclusive proof for the September date. Seems we have been spreading misinformation from GameSpot since 2006! —Legoless (talk) 11:42, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
